Summer Showdown '09 Voting Thread: An Important Message to Everyone
![]() Dear Friends, This summer, seven teams competed in a cut-throat competition that included four extremely difficult challenges. They were given six weeks (roughly) to create an entire park, complete with attractions, shops, restaurants, and of course, a theme. The following link below will take you to the official Summer Showdown '09 web page, where you can review all the team's entries. Once you've studied each entry, return here and vote for your TWO favorite entries. There were some difficulties this year, mostly with computer issues. Many parks became corrupt, other people's computers went on fritz, and some people just fell off the map. A few of the parks are not complete, so what I have done is collect anything and everything each team was willing to show. One team has extremely small pictures, for whatever reason, some don't have park files, only one or two have a video included. While it may seem like a hodgepodge, each team was able to submit SOMETHING, and in my opinion, each team has represented themselves extremely well. I hope you can put some of the discrepancies in presentation aside and vote for the two best parks. There will be a prize awarded to the winning team. That will remain confidential until the winning team is announced. The voting thread will be left up for one week. It will close on Friday, August 28th at 6:00 PM Central Time. Enjoy the entries, everyone worked extremely hard. Contestants, you may vote for your choices if you don't mind that voting won't be blind. Wow, what a turn out! Kudos to all the teams and to the host! You may want to know though, the poll is public rather then private.

There are two clear winners here, E and F. Both were great, inspiring, and of course jawdropping. I loved team E the most, followed closely by F. Both parks had the most vib and appealing atmostsphere. I swear that both parks looked like they were full blown parks, far better then most parks that are displayed normally here (mine included)
Well done all teams!

I don't have time to watch all the videos, and download the parks, but just from the pictures E and F are looking stunning! As well as the other parks. I wont cast my vote until I have time to look at everything though

F and G for me. The rapids were great on G, and F has beautiful buildings.

D was good, especially with the detail and lighting, and F was incredible, with the vegetation, lights, clever hiding of the rides, and building skills, they get my vote.

I will be adding a .zip file for Team D's entry, showcasing full sized pics. Something was messed up in the transfer, so be on the lookout for that.

Team A: Overall shot of the park is gorgeous. The "treehouse" coaster looks great. A+ for whoever thought up that one.
Team B: That's a waterpark I want to visit. I love the half-sunken funnel. The coaster looks great too. Team C: Love the colored lighting on the wave(?) pool. The coaster looks pretty good, too. Some details like flanges on the supports would have really taken it to the next level. The rest of the park looks beautifully realistic... as do the buildings. Team D: Waiting for video to download cause I can't see anything in your pics. Team E: Win. That giga is ridiculous. The waterfall out in the middle of nowhere is ridiculous. I love all of it. My nitpick is the rocks... needs a lot more loving care to throw in some other rock sets to help break it up.. but that's a labor-intensive process there wasn't time for, I'm sure, so I'll let that slide. I'd love to see all of you collab on a project again without time or theme constraints. Excellent job. Team F: Wow. Lush, gorgeous... the scenery choices are great. A couple different palm trees here and there could have helped just a bit. The overview shot has a bit too much of the same tree and not much taller than it. The buildings are terrific.. I wish I had the knack to plunk down gorgeous streets and shops like that. The detail is terrific. The potted palm and wet floor sign in the bathroom are wonderful touches. The coasters look like tons of fun, too... barring there's enough clearance and no clipping issues. I'd love to see a video tour of this park.Team G: See Team E's rock comment. Same applies here. I love the Tomb Raider-esque Top Spin, and really impressed with the interaction between the rapids ride and the dive machine. Excellent Job. I'd like to say congrats to everyone... you all produced some really quality stuff together! If I'm forced to only choose 2 to give my votes to, however.. they have to be Teams E & F

All great submissions guys (and gal
)and gav, I must agree. Looking through some of these shots, I had the urge to look for a TUT for composerboys rocks. It just seems they were used a bit carelessly in places. On the other hand, I must credit team E for patience. That bold move with the set is not something I would have done.

They were all very well-done, but if I had to choose two, I would pick E and F.

Finally, the voting thread is up! I love all the original ideas and the great buildings!
Oh, and Gibbs, you were a great guy to work with! I love your motivation and determination to go on after all your computer issues! And of course thanks to Luke for joining our team so the park looks reasonable and finished! I'll give my full respons after Masked has said which park was made by who (otherwise it wouldn't be a secret anymore which park was made by us) Too bad some teams have already gave away their secret. edit: Masked, please change one member of our team. You have put RCT-extremist's name under our team, it should be Luke_1990!

Some brilliant stuff made! Its quite funny how the way the parks are being voted on is completely different to the teaser vote. Its a very close competition is this one me thinks.

My vote goes to team E. I loved the unique tropical atmosphere, the style of the buildings, and the way they made it very rocky; Giant cliffs with huge waterfalls and what not.
![]() EDIT: Dang, after all this time thinking it through I just saw the vote for TWO as I was clicking submit ![]()

I just want to know how team G made the rapids like that. Very impressive. All entries were very impressive, for that matter.

It was always going to be Team F for me but the rapids/diving machine interaction just gave G the advantage over E for my 2nd choice.
Team A and B are really nice parks, but just didn't have that WOW factor that F did. If they were just in the parks section, I would be extremely impressed! |

I voted for teams E and F. Each of their parks were just mind boggling when it came to detail and creativity. Every entry was great, but these two simply stole the show, in my humblest of opinions. I'll give a full critique later.

A was my vote N1 because it was actually pretty creative. I love the rhino-go-round and all of the sandy paths that they used. It looks like a park made for summer.
F was my vote N2 because I thought it was, in a sense, beautiful. I felt like I was in Italy and Spain, even though I have never been to either. I do think that they vegetATION WAS OVERKILL. i DID LIKE ALL THE PARK, THOUGH.

A: The invert was just great, the most original coaster in the whole competition. And you have some really good concepts, like the tent with the rhinos.
B: Pretty well designed waterpark but what I like the most is the coaster, looks like something B&M could build in a real park C: Well designed and realistic, a shame it isn't complete, but yet again good stuff going on here. I really would like to see it completed. D: Another one I'd LOVE to see completed. It's different from the other concepts of "summer" and that's good. From the very moment I saw the teasers I knew whose park was this. The coaster and the completed parts are superb.E: With the teasers you showed I never got that "park" feeling, but this one has to win. The rockwork is crazy, and with that set you don't get (or at leats not that much) that meatball look. I love how everything is perfectly placed. Nice buildings and waterpark too. I need to know how you guys managed to create THAT in just 6 (?) weeks. Just as gravity said, you have to do another team park. ![]() F: My other vote. The waterfront zone is insane yet again with not much time you created a great park. I'm not totally sure on the Atlantean theming on the waterpark but still top notch stuff. Any chances of a download? G: I've always found hand-made boats fascinating Both the rapids and the Dive coaster look like a must-ride, specially the rapids. Everything looks really well done and quite complete. But a video for the rapids, even with the ugly track showing, if you used that little trick, would be nice! ![]() That's just my two cents. PS: Btw, could someone send me Imagination's Going Plain set? I'd really appreciate that, I can't find a working download. ![]() |

Well done to all teams.
Even with all the problems, looks like everyone got in something good, various stages of completeness or not. Will post my thoughts after poll ends. |

I'm pretty glad I competed, so I can't vote. Otherwise, I'd be having a lot of trouble choosing. There's some amazing stuff here, everyone! |

Great job with this Masked! But haven't these voting threads always be big? Lots of members would talk about the projects, etc. We haven't even got past page 1.
I guess I'm just saying I always remember this really popular, but it seems to be dying down. (but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be another one next year! ) |
